A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things throughout their lifetime and can affect the way a person understands information and how they communicate.
This means they can have difficulty:
- understanding new or complex information
- learning new skills
- coping independently
The condition can be assessed as being mild, moderate or severe which may reflect their ability to communicate and live independently. Some young people and children may also have special educational needs (SEN)

What are learning disability annual health checks?
