More than 100 people attended an event for patients living with diabetes, as part of an on-going outreach programme run by Southend West Central Primary Care Network (PCN) to help people live well with long-term conditions.
The event, held at King’s Road United Reform Church in Westcliff, aimed to provide advice and support for diabetic patients, as well as foot checks as part of patients’ annual reviews.
Southend West Central PCN’s Clinical Team Leader, Lionah Musengezi said, “It can be daunting for people with a new diagnosis of diabetes, with a lot of information to take in. This event gave people the opportunity to ask questions and find out where they can go for support and advice.
We were also able to book in around 80 patients for diabetic foot checks, saving them from having to book an appointment at their GP practice.”
There was also the opportunity to connect with renowned experts from various organisations, including Everyone Health, EPUT Diabetes Service, and the Eye Screening Service, who were available to answer questions, address concerns, and provide valuable insights into living a healthier life with diabetes.
The next event on 28 June will offer support to people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and will feature a series of short talks from community respiratory nurses, COPD connectors, the Long COVID service and more.
